GUT HEALTH OPTIMIZATION

Your gut health is intimately tied to your entire body. Digestion is not just about comfort - it affects inflammation, hormones, immune balance, brain function, mood, energy, and metabolism.

The gut microbiome (the ecosystem of bacteria and other microorganisms living in your digestive tract) is so important that many experts now describe it as an "additional organ" of the body. A healthy microbiome supports digestion, nutrient absorption, immune regulation, and healthy neurotransmitter production. When the microbiome becomes imbalanced, it can contribute to a wide range of issues including fatigue, brain fog, skin flares, food reactions, weight-loss resistance, inflammation, and autoimmunity.

Gut issues have become a modern epidemic. Many people are doing their best - eating a fairly healthy diet - and still struggle with:

  • bloating, gas, constipation, or diarrhea

  • acid reflux or indigestion

  • food sensitivities and unpredictable reactions

  • fatigue, brain fog, and mood changes

  • anemia or low vitamin/mineral levels

  • inflammation and weight-loss resistance

At Tenacity Health, we specialize in gut optimization and root-cause care.
We help patients identify inflammatory triggers, reduce gut irritation, and rebuild healthy digestion from the inside out.

OUR APPROACH
We focus on 4 key steps:

  1. Identify triggers
Many gut symptoms are driven by inflammatory foods, food intolerances, stress physiology, and microbiome imbalance. We help you identify patterns and triggers and create a realistic plan you can follow.

  2. Remove and replace
We help you eliminate inflammatory foods and replace them with satisfying, sustainable, nutrient-dense alternatives that support healing (without extreme dieting or long-term restriction when not necessary).

  3. Repair the gut lining and reduce inflammation
When appropriate, we support gut mucosal healing and reduce intestinal inflammation. Many patients describe this as "healing leaky gut," meaning we are reducing barrier dysfunction and immune activation in the GI tract. We have had high success rates with carefully curated supplements and peptides known to heal gut mucosa.

  4. Rebuild the microbiome
We support a healthier microbiome using targeted nutrition, lifestyle strategies, and supplements when appropriate to restore balance and resilience.

CONDITIONS WE COMMONLY HELP WITH

  • chronic bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea

  • suspected "leaky gut" / intestinal permeability symptoms

  • reflux and indigestion (often diet or inflammation related)

  • food sensitivities and inflammatory reactions

  • suspected microbiome imbalances

  • SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) evaluation and support

TESTING WE MAY USE (WHEN APPROPRIATE)
Depending on your symptoms, we may recommend testing such as:

  • stool testing to evaluate microbiome balance, digestion markers, and inflammation

  • breath testing for SIBO

  • targeted lab testing for nutrient deficiencies and inflammatory patterns

  • selective food allergy testing (IgE) when clinically indicated

  • food sensitivity/intolerance exploration using symptom patterns, elimination strategies, and in some cases specialized testing

GUT HEALTH AND THE BRAIN, IMMUNITY, AND HORMONES
The gut communicates constantly with the brain and immune system. Gut imbalance can worsen:

  • anxiety and low mood

  • fatigue and poor sleep quality

  • inflammation and autoimmune flares

  • hormone imbalance and PMS/perimenopausal symptoms

  • thyroid function and metabolic regulation

When we improve digestion, reduce inflammation, and support the microbiome, patients often notice improvements beyond their GI symptoms - including better energy, clearer thinking, improved mood, and better metabolic outcomes.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Tenacity Health is a functional medicine clinic focused on wellness optimization and root-cause healing. We are not a gastroenterology specialty clinic. We do not replace a gastroenterologist, and we will refer you for GI specialty evaluation when needed.

RED FLAGS: WHEN YOU SHOULD SEE GI OR SEEK URGENT EVALUATION
If you have any of the following symptoms, you should seek urgent evaluation or work with a gastroenterologist, as these can represent more serious conditions:

  • blood in the stool or black/tarry stools

  • persistent vomiting or inability to keep fluids down

  • unexplained weight loss

  • severe or worsening abdominal pain

  • ongoing anemia or iron deficiency of unclear cause

  • difficulty swallowing or food getting stuck

  • persistent diarrhea for more than 2-4 weeks

  • family history of colon cancer plus new or changing bowel habits

  • fever with significant GI symptoms

Our goal is to help you understand your body, reduce triggers, restore digestive function, and build a healthier foundation for lifelong wellness.
